2022 USA Elite Track National Championships

The 2022 USA Cycling Junior & Elite Track National Championships returned to our backyard, at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Breinigsville, PA this week (Thursday July 28 - Sunday July 31). We are so proud of our three teammates who competed for the coveted stars and stripes jerseys that denotes a national champion.

Jessica Chong (affectionately known as the Chonger) couldn't be more at home at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center (affectionately known at T-Town), a place where she has raced successfully for many years. Chonger started her #TrackNats campaign on Thursday evening with a 4th place finish in the Elite Women's Scratch race. Pretty good for someone who has been told that she "can't sprint." She also gathered 4th in the Women's Elite Omnium competition (a combination of a 10km Scratch race, a 7.5km Tempo race, an Elimination race, and a 20km Points race), 9th in the Women's Elite Points Race, 7th in the Women's Elite Elimination race. So a pretty active weekend for sure. A little more about that weekend below....

Warrington's Bethany Matsick started making noise at Track Nationals early on Wednesday when she set a track record in the qualifying heat of the Elite Women's Individual Pursuit competition. Bethany's time of 3:38.262 broke the 1996 record of Rebecca Twigg (3:41.300). Later that evening, Bethany took first in the final of the Elite Women's Individual Pursuit race to claim her second ever track national championship. Bethany has been balancing her graduate studies and recovery from a concussion injury suffered in racing earlier this summer, but she had one more great result this weekend. See below!

Andy Dudle competed in Thursday's Men's Elite Scratch Race, and Saturday night's Men's Elite Points Race (finishing 18th). Both races included extremely deep and talented fields of racers from across the nation. Kudos to Andy for getting in there and mixing it up with the best in the country and we're looking forward to watching his late season racing at the Electric City Classic Criterium on August 27 & 28 in Scranton, PA and the hometown Bucks County Classic on September 11th in Doylestown

On Sunday, Bethany and Chonger competed in the Women's Elite Team Pursuit discipline. This is a four-woman race and for the effort they were joined by Elizabeth Stevenson of Marian University and Kimberly Zubris of Alburtis, PA. The foursome combined to win the 2022 national championship by winning the final in a time of 5:01.625. Congratulations to all on not just a successful race effort, but a massively successful weekend.
