2024 BCC Thompson Pro Men Preview

Since the formation of our team in 2012 we have annually taken out a red sharpie and drawn a big circle around the second Sunday in September when top national and international cycling talent comes to Doylestown for the Bucks County Classic. The mission of our program is to promote competitive cycling in our community and we are proud that each year we accomplish a "first ever" at the hometown pro race. This year will be no different as we field our most competitive men's team in our history. Join us at Artifact Brewing (19 W. Court St.) on Sunday, September 8th, and cheer on our team!

Sam Smith is a native of Doylestown Borough racing in his 5th Thompson Pro Men's Race at the Bucks County Classic. He gets the loudest cheers since he passes his childhood home on the course. Sam is a graduate of CB West and a current Penn State student. He has been a member of our program since 2016. He finished 4th at the 2024 Easton Twilight Criterium and has podiums at races this season including the Smoketown, Race Ave., Hummelstown, and Grant's Tomb Criterium. He was our first-ever winner of the Lucarelli & Castaldi Branchbrook Spring Series. Sam is recovering from an injury sustained at the Littleton Twilight Criterium in Colorado earlier this month, but is ready to race!

Colin Fitzgerald (Philadelphia) was born racing bikes and joined our elite team in 2020. He's racing in his 4th Bucks County Classic Thompson Pro Men's Race and recorded our program's first top-ten result in 2023. He has raced in some of the nation's biggest races this year including the Sunny King Criterium, the Armed Forces Cycling Classic, the Chicago Grit Series, and the USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships. Colin is a threat to get on the podium but can also do the gritty work necessary to help the team in many ways.

Sean Guydish (Easton, PA) is a veteran of the Kelly Benefit Strategies and Aevolo Cycling programs. In 2021 he finished 2nd at the Bucks County Classic Thompson Pro Men's Race while racing for Kelly Benefits. He is a welcome addition to our 2024 elite team bringing his leadership and steady presence in the race. He made 17 starts for our team this season, a highlight being his 12th-place finish at the USA Cycling Pro Road Criterium National Championships in Charleston, WV (the highest non-professional finisher).

Alden Weinhold (Doylestown) has been a member of our program since age eleven and a veteran of the Bucks County Composite Mountain Bike/NICA program. He is an alum of CB West High School and a student at Colorado State University. He was the first Doylestown athlete to earn a podium at the Bucks County Classic when he finished 3rd in the 2021 Men's Amateur race. He is making his 3rd start at the Thompson Pro Men's Race this year. Alden earned his Pro/Cat 1 USA Cycling license this year after winning the 2024 Wilmington Grand Prix Men's 2/3 race. While making 15 starts on the road for us this season, Alden has also been getting back to his mountain bike roots with podiums in the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Super Series.

Brad Green (Schnecksville, PA) is a first-year member of our men's elite road team. He races professionally on the track for the UCI Star Track program. Brad is just plain fast and will be racing in his 3rd Bucks County Classic Thompson Pro Men's Race. Brad is one of the racers we sent to Belgium this summer for 2-weeks of Kermesse racing. He competed in the 2024 USA Cycling Pro Road and Elite Track National Championships. Recently he won the Smoketown Criterium in Lancaster County.

Alex St. Andre (Westport, CT) is another first-year member of our men's elite road team. He comes to us through his coach Mike Norton at MSN Coaching who never steers us wrong. Alex immediately was a fit with our squad and we couldn't be happier to have him. Alex was 3rd at the Garden State Stage Race this Spring and was 2nd at the Branchbrook Spring Series behind teammate Sam Smith. Recently Alex was part of our squad racing 2-weeks of Kermesses in Belgium. He is a freshman at the University of Colorado.

Connor Thompson (Sinking Springs, PA) is a veteran of our men's elite team having joined us in 2021. He is a student at Penn State University. He is making his 4th start at the Bucks County Classic Thompson Pro Men's Race. Last year he raced in Spain with an American cycling academy and represented us in South America at the Tour of Tobago. He recently finished 3rd at the inaugural Simon's Heart Conshy Classic. Connor is one of our racers who can do the gritty teamwork and is a threat to the podium. We even saw him on track this season at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center.

Andy Dudle (Emmaus) is our team's OG making his first start for our elite team in 2019. He has 56 road starts for our team which we believe to be our record. He is a specialist on the track, a capable sprinter, and a skilled mountain biker, and he'll even win a cyclocross race for you. This year he won the Chocolate City Fixed Gear Criterium. He embodies our vision of "Let's race all the bikes." Andy is a fixture on Friday nights at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. This will be his 5th start at the Bucks County Classic Thompson Pro Race for our team.

Gui Nelessen (Lambertville, NJ) is an alumnus of our men's elite road program and serves as our directeur sportif. He is a former national champion in track cycling and a member of the USA Cycling Track Nationals team. He has represented our program on the road, mountain bike, and track bike and is the current 2024 Pennyfarthing national champion. He also completed the 2024 STB GRVL Black Course while representing us and as a BMC ambassador. He'll be in charge of directing our racers on September 8th in Doylestown!
