Chonger, Matsick 5th & 6th at WGP

Our mission is to increase both the number and diversity of local athletes competing at all levels of competitive cycling. Frankly there is a dearth of women competing on the bicycle locally and globally, and since the end of the pandemic we've seen a decline in participation in all competitive sports including cycling. I can only tell you that we are doing our part to reverse those trends.

Cycling is both an individual and team sport. Teammates work together to effect a race outcome through a variety of tactics. That's why we are so excited to welcome home Bethany Matisck (Warrington) to our women's elite team alongside veteran racer Jessica Chong (Lehigh Valley). Bethany completed her graduate studies at Liberty University this May, ending her collegiate cycling career by winning the USA Cycling Collegiate National Championship in the Time Trial discipline. In 2021, Bethany earned her first national championship on the track in the Team Pursuit discipline.

The rain-soaked Wilmington Grand Prix Women's Pro Race on Saturday May 14th (Wilmington, DE) provided a look at what Jess and Bethany can do together. They combined together to place 5th and 6th place respectively in a strong field that featured some of the best national and regional racers. You can see the full results here.

In this endeavor, we are grateful to our title sponsor Fred Beans Auto Group for their long-time support of our program. We are also specifically grateful to Doylestown Health for their specific interest in supporting our women's program. In addition to sponsoring our women's elite team on the road, track, and trail they also sponsor the Women's Pro Race at the annual Bucks County Classic Pro Cycling Race in Doylestown each September. We think that showcasing local women's athletes on the hometown stage is an amazing way to outreach to the next generation of women's athletes. Thank you!
