Connor Thompson Wins at Wilmington

The 15th Annual Wilmington Grand Prix returned to the first state's largest city last weekend including a Friday night time trial up nearby Monkey Hill, Saturday's, a community ride in honor of Marshall "Major" Taylor, and a Gran Fondo event through northern Delaware. However, the gemstone is Saturday's criterium race on a technical one-mile loop in Wilmington's LOMA district that includes some wicked elevation. Our day started with Connor Thompson (Sinking Springs) and Alden Weinhold (Doylestown) racing in the rain-soaked, Open Category 2/3 sixty-minute race. Connor escaped with a three-man break, and took the sprint to win the race followed by Alden 22 seconds later who took ninth overall.

We can't help but be reminded that in 2019 team alum and fellow Nittany Lion, Colin Kelly (Ottsville) announced the beginning of his successful season by taking 2nd place at the same race. A good omen for Connor who has already has podium appearances at the McCaskey Avenue Criterium (3rd) and Simon's Heart Spring Classic (2nd) this season.
