Meet a Racer: Alex St. Andre

High school senior Alex St. Andre (Westport, CT) is a first year racer with the Bike Works p/b Fred Beans Elite Cycling Team. Alex comes to us through his coach Mike Norton of MSN Coaching who has worked closely with our elite team in recent years. Alex began road racing in 2017 with the TT Endurance Developmental Program. In 2023 Alex won the Connecticut Elite State Championship, and finished had top-20 finishes at the USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships in both the Road Race and Time Trial disciplines. He also gained his first international start at the Tour of l'Abitibi Nations Cup in Quebec, Canada. While Alex hails from a little further distance than his teammates, we just knew that he'd be a great addition to our team both as a racer and person.

No surprise to us, Alex is already demonstrating that he's going to be a force. Alex took 2nd in the general classification (overall standings) at the 2024 Lucratelli & Castaldi Branch Brook Spring Series (Newark, NJ) behind teammate Sam Smith, and 3rd in the GC at the Garden State Stage Race (Piscataway, NJ) in the early spring. Alex's 2nd place finish at the Trooper Brinkerhoff Memorial Race (Coxsackie, NY) on April 27th earned him his USA Cycling Category 1 license upgrade (the highest level of competition). Alex has placed a big red circle around the USA Cycling Road National Championships (Charleston, WV) on May 14-19th where he will compete in the U23 Time Trial, U23 Road Race, U23 Criterium, and then take on America's best in the Pro Road Race. Alex is a racer capable of breaking away for the win, but an all-around-racer who can support a teammate for the win -- keep an eye out for him in 2024.
